5 At Home Date Ideas for Parents

By: Jasmine Reed

Do you remember the biggest piece of advice you and your spouse received, as new parents? More than likely, it included something about making sure to prioritize each other and the relationship. Depending on how long you’ve been in the parenthood game, you’ve probably come to realize that that’s way easier said than done. And COVID-19 has definitely slowed or stopped people from doing the traditional dates they’re used to. But, there are still fun ways to get in much needed QT with your other half, at home - you just have to get creative!

Here are five at-home date ideas to help get you started:

1. Staycation - If you’re lucky enough to have in-laws or other family members pretty close-by, coordinate a weekend to have them watch the kiddos. This gives you the kid-free environment you need to really focus on each other. Any task that doesn’t involve doing something fun or relaxing, together, is NOT allowed. This is your time to decompress and temporarily re-live your pre-kid days. Take FULL advantage!

2. Virtual Cooking Class - Bored with the usual dishes you make? Spice things up with a virtual cooking class! Get fresh ingredients delivered to your doorstep and tune in to a LIVE cooking demo, where you get to interact with the chef(s) and other, virtual attendees. Try to pick a dish that neither you nor your spouse know how to make, so you can have fun learning how to make it, together! Don’t forget to take pictures of the

finished dish or it didn’t happen. :)

3. At-Home Wine Tasting - Head to your local grocery or package store, and each of you select one to two (or as many) wines you’d like to try. The key is, they have to be wines that neither of you has tried before. Turn the fun up a notch, with a blind-fold and make a guessing game out of it. Person who gets the most wine guesses right, wins a prize of their choosing!

4. Full-Out Movie Night - Find a local Redbox Kiosk or rent a few movies via your fave streaming service, make a grocery run to pick up all your fave movie theater snacks, turn off all the lights and snuggle up on the couch! If you’re unable to secure reliable child care, one suggestion would be to get the kids to bed a little earlier than usual!

5. At-Home Luxury Picnic - Picnics aren’t a new concept. But, luxury picnic services are really taking over. The themed-decor creates a different vibe that elevates the typical picnic experience. The neat thing about these luxury picnic services is that you get the convenience of having someone come to your location of choice, and set everything up! It’s a great idea for special occasions. If you or your spouse are pretty creative, save some money and pull together decor and dishes you already own, that you don’t mind using for outdoor dining. Of course include food and beverages of your choice and voila! Getting some alone time is a little tougher these days, but hang in there parents! Add at least one of these ideas to your calendar, for the week/weekend, and enjoy yourselves, because you deserve it.
