Our Mission

Vinehouse Nursery is committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment, which fosters a child’s natural desire to explore, discover, create, and become a lifelong learner. As caregivers and educators, we believe in the value and uniqueness of each child we serve. Our childcare experience is designed to promote each child’s own individual social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Committed to the families we serve, we strive to give parents a home away from home feeling, through a quality child care center, while planting smiles, growing giggles, and harvesting love.

Our Philosophy

At Vinehouse Nursery we ensure that exceptional growth is produced with each month of your child’s first year, as those months prove to be pivotal stages in their development. Our desire is to plant solid roots, with a quality teacher, for our Vinehouse kids and families. We grow these roots by recycling 2 key beliefs from birth to 5 years old: Nurture Creativity, Expand Self Expression and Increased Independence.

Vinehouse Nursery proudly provides developmentally appropriate programs within a warm and nurturing environment that fosters positive self-esteem and promotes creativity and individuality. We believe in a multi-sensory approach, where children are immersed in the learning process. They are actively and purposefully engaged throughout each day. Every moment is a teachable moment and our curriculum is designed to encompass all areas of early childhood development, while making certain to meet the needs of the individual child and capitalize on their personal interests and motivations.

We offer many varied opportunities for learning through active play, social interaction and 1:1 instruction. Our goal is to foster a strong sense of self-worth in the children that will provide a strong framework of success for overcoming all later life experiences and challenges.

We embrace the belief that you, our parents, are the first and most important teachers in your child’s life. We look to you for guidance and support in helping us ease your child’s transition into school. The family connection is fostered throughout the year as we continually urge parents to participate in classroom activities, read-alouds and social activities. We have an open-door policy and parents are encouraged to schedule time to volunteer in their child’s classroom.

Our program is built around the concept that children are born ready to learn. As caregivers, we strive to create a learning environment that is safe, stimulating and encouraging.

Khiari McAlpin-Knox

Vinehouse Director

John 15:5 states that "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” At Vinehouse Nursery that is my exact goal for all of our children.  I am a firm believer that all children can learn and that education first starts when a child is in a mother’s womb. When a parent and a caregiver can provide and educate a child together, that child’s future will start off as a “tiny seed and blossom into a beautiful flower.” By focusing on a high, quality child care center, a nurturing culture, and a safe and eco-friendly environment, I am here to make sure every child receives the best education from birth to 4 years old.

My history in the education arena began many years ago as I was teaching my dolls long before I officially became a teacher. I was born in Asheville, North Carolina and raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  I went to Auburn University in 2006-2009 (WAR EAGLE!) where I received a Bachelor's in Elementary Education. I then continued to further my education from 2009-2010 where I received a Master’s in Elementary Education. While in graduate school I was so blessed to study abroad in Arusha, Tanzania. While in Africa, I had the pleasure of teaching third and fourth graders.

After graduation, I taught Pre-K in LaGrange, Georgia at Unity Elementary School. I then relocated back to Auburn, Alabama where I taught second grade at Dean Road Elementary School for two years. I eventually returned to my roots in Charlotte, North Carolina where I taught first grade for four years at Shamrock Gardens Elementary School in Charlotte. In 2016, I was nominated by my school as Teacher of the Year, which led me to be the 2016 Charlotte North Rotary Club Teacher of the Year winner. I have also been named, Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2019, by the Harbert College of Business at Auburn University.

In addition to my classroom experience, I have also worked at a child development center for over 10+ years in both Alabama and North Carolina as an infant, toddler, and pre-K teacher, as well as, a camp counselor. I currently hold the following certifications and serve on the following Boards:

◦    State of Alabama Teaching Certification License

◦    State of Georgia Teaching Certification License

◦    State of North Carolina Teaching Certification License

◦    Alabama Reading Initiative Certification

◦    Director’s License for Child Care

◦    Certified Infant Massage Instructor

◦    First Aid and CPR Certification

◦    Board of Directors for Shelby County Chamber of Commerce

◦    Member of the R.I.S.E. Program for Child Care Resources

◦    Vice President of Junior Board for Child Care Resources

I am excited to continue planting smiles, growing giggles, and harvesting love at Vinehouse Nursery. Let’s start digging!
